Government-wide Study on the Impact of the Aging Population

As Canada's population ages, governments at all levels need to anticipate the challenges that this demographic trend will present to programs and services offered for seniors. By completing this study now, Alberta is at the forefront of the planning process that will ensure the needs of today's seniors and tomorrow's seniors are anticipated and met.

Projecting what issues will face Albertans 15 - 20 years into the future, the steering committee for the Government-Wide Study on the Impact of the Aging Population presented its final report, PDF ALBERTA FOR ALL AGES: Directions for the Future, to Stan Woloshyn, Minister of Seniors.

The final report is a beginning, to help Albertans think ahead and to anticipate the impact of an aging population on their own lives and on their communities. It is being reviewed to ensure that the Government of Alberta is able to use this information to meet the needs of seniors today and tomorrow in a planned and strategic manner.

The Study identified eight main themes, with supporting recommendations, that ranged from encouraging wellness and healthy lifestyles to safe, affordable housing choices and preparing the workforce for an aging population.
