Symposium on Aging Discussion Group Report Backs

The Steering Committee for the Impact of the Aging Population Study sponsored a Symposium on Aging: Planning for the Future. The Symposium proceedings included:

  • presentations by invited experts on the aging of the population and its impact;
  • dialogue between the invited experts and the Steering Committee;
  • dialogue, through questions, between the invited experts and the participants; and
  • small group discussions among the delegates.

There were three major presentations to begin the Symposium. The three topics were:

  • Impact of the Aging Population
  • Healthy Aging
  • Supportive Communities

173 delegates were invited to attend the symposium, 83 were individual Albertans, one from each provincial constituency. These delegates were randomly selected by an independent research company to ensure a wide representation of Albertans from all walks of life. 90 delegates were representatives of key stakeholder groups from across the province representing the following sectors:
