Plan for Change
The Important Actions look at:
Clarity (To make clear)
- The PDD program’s new Mission says:
- PDD will work with others
- PDD cannot be the only help for adults with developmental disabilities
- PDD will help people to be involved in their community
- PDD will help individuals do as much as they can on their own
- PDD will have three main jobs.
- Help people live in a home
- Help people connect with others in their community
- Help communities be good at involving adults with developmental disabilities
- The new mission and main jobs will make sure everyone knows what PDD’s work is and how they will help people.
Consistency (Done the same way all the time)
- A rule was made that started on August 1, 2009. The rule tells who can get help from PDD.
- The rule makes it easier to know who gets help from PDD.
- The rule makes sure people wanting help are treated the same way all the time.
- PDD will start to use a new way to make sure the needs of all people in PDD will be looked at the same way.
- This will get help to people who need it.
Effectiveness (How well it works)
- The PDD program wants to make it easy for families to hire their own staff.
- PDD wants to:
- decrease the paperwork filled out by families
- make it easier for families to change services when they need to
- Many individuals being supported by the PDD program need special services.
- Doctors say these people have two disabilities:
- a developmental disability, and
- a mental illness or physical problem.
- The PDD program will work with others, to get better help for people who need special services.
Efficiency (How to work better)
- The PDD program will look at how to do its work better, and with the community boards and with PDD agencies.
Sustainability (Keep it up)
- When PDD starts to do these changes, the lives of people in PDD will be better.
- The program will be there for lots of years.
The End
- With these changes, and by working together with others, all Albertans can take part in our communities – both today and in the future.
