Questions and Answers: PDD Change Initiatives (Plain Language)
What will the PDD Program look like in the future?
An Alberta program that:
- Offers useful and regular services
- Offers good and fair access to services across Alberta
- Is well organized, shares the best way to do things, and shares what we learn
- Helps all communities include people
Why it is good?
- PDD is a valuable program that gives help to about 9,400 adult Albertans with disabilities. This is a great chance to make the program the best it can be for the people it helps.
- Information about the Change Initiatives will be shared with persons, families, PDD staff, agencies, Family Managed Services and other people who are interested in PDD. Their ideas will be wanted during the process.
What is the new program?
The PDD program will get better, with a focus on:
- Making more good things happen for the people it helps;
- Giving help in a way that is regular and fair. It lets people get help across Alberta;
- Helping communities to include adults with disabilities in community life;
- Doing things the best way possible and being creative;
- Working as one program/one business;
- Being clear about the role of PDD;
- Being a well organized and useful system; and,
- Continuing into the future
Will there be changes to the help given to my family members?
There will be little change for people. Changes will mainly involve the way things are usually done (for example: one business) or special things (for example: working with computers). The help a person must have will be based on their needs, which may change over time.
How will I be kept up to date about what’s going on?
There will be ongoing contact about how things are going. The changes will be shared through the PDD website, regular Board reports, and through other ways.
Will there be chances for me to be involved?
Yes. You will have a chance to learn more about the work that has started and give your ideas.
When will the Change Initiative Project be done?
Work on the Change Initiatives has started. Many changes will be made during 2013; all the changes will be done by April 2014.
