Questions and Answers: PDD Change Initiatives
What will the PDD Program look like in the future?
A provincial program that:
- Offers effective and consistent services
- Offers reasonable and equitable access to services across the province
- Is efficient and shares best practices and learning
- Promotes inclusive communities
Why it’s important?
- PDD is an important program that provides supports to approximately 9,400 adult Albertans with developmental disabilities. This is a great opportunity to make the program the best it can be for the people it supports.
- Information on the Change Initiatives will be shared with individuals, families, PDD staff, service providers, Family Managed Services funds administrators and other key stakeholders on an ongoing basis. Their input will be sought throughout the process.
What is the new direction of the program?
The PDD program will build on its strong foundation, with an increased focus on:
- Increasing positive outcomes for the individuals it supports;
- Delivering supports in a way that is consistent and fair, and provides reasonable access to supports across the Province;
- Promoting community capacity to include adults with developmental disabilities in community life;
- Leveraging best practices and innovation;
- Operating as one program/one organization;
- Being clear about the mandate of the PDD program;
- Being an efficient and effective system; and,
- Being sustainable into the future.
Will there be changes to the supports provided to my family members?
There will be minimal disruption to supports for individuals in the change process. Changes will primarily affect overall approaches (e.g. one organization) or specific processes (e.g. contracting, IT). An individual’s supports will be based on their needs, which may change over time.
How will I be kept informed about what’s going on?
There will be ongoing communication about the progress of the changes shared through the PDD program website, regular Board reports, and through other regional communication mechanisms.
Will there be opportunities for me to be involved?
Yes. You will have an opportunity to learn more about the work underway and provide your input and ideas.
What is the timeline for the Change Initiative Project?
Work on the Change Initiatives is well underway. Many changes will be implemented during the upcoming year; all are expected to be completed by April 2014.
