Only The Best Will Do - click here to view the pdf It is with great pleasure that the PDD Central Alberta Community Board, and the families involved, publish Only The Best Will Do - A Guide for Parents and Guadians.

This guide was produced as part of the PDD Central Region Community Board Family Accountability Project. The project began April 1, 2002, was completed March 31, 2004. The project was coordinated by Diane Cuts (Community Information & Referral Society (CIRS) in Red Deer.

As part of the project, Diane met with families from various communities in Central Alberta and now their stories, concerns and wisdom are captured in this Guide!

The Guide provides advice on how to select services and agencies, how to monitor what is happening and how to advocate for a family member. It includes guiding principles, family stories and descriptions of Person Centered Planning, the PDD appeal process, and CET Standards. The book is part of the Board's commitment to ensure that individuals and families have access to information about the range of supports and services and about some of the ways to advocate so that individuals with developmental disabilities can be supported in the best possible way.

The Guide also includes a list of family contacts who can be called for more information or support, as well as a list of reference books and videos that can be borrowed in Central Alberta.

Many of the families noted on the list were very involved in the production of the Guide and the PDD Central Region Community Board acknowledges them for their contributions. The Board also thanks John Morran, for his design, writing, and production work and of course, Diane Cuts for her great work with families in both creating the Guide's content, and in providing ongoing support to individuals and families across the region.

Copies of the Guide are being sent to families across the region and additional printed copies can be obtained by contacting a Community Supports Coordinator or by calling the PDD Central Region Community Board office at (403) 340-5003.

Feedback about the Guide is welcome and can be sent to Lorne McEwen, CEO at (403) 340-7767 or through email at Lorne.McEwen@gov.ab.ca.
