In 2009, Alberta Seniors and Community Supports introduced changes to strengthen the PDD program, which supports about 9,300 adults with developmental disabilities.
The purpose of these changes is to improve the PDD program to ensure it is responsive to individual needs, results in positive outcomes for people it supports, and is sustainable into the future.
The priority actions focus on improving clarity and consistency, increasing effectiveness and efficiency, and ensuring long-term program sustainability.
As part of the priority actions for the PDD program, the Minister of Alberta Seniors and Community Supports requested that efforts be undertaken to increase effectiveness and efficiency both within and across Community Boards, and externally in the service delivery system.
The PDD program wants to be more effective and efficient both internally within the PDD organization, and externally in the service delivery system. Being effective, efficient and accountable for results is important, regardless of the economic environment. However, it is becoming increasingly important to ensure the PDD program is sustainable into the future.
Although changes have been considered since 2008, when PDD Community Boards met with their stakeholders about innovation, current economic conditions have accelerated the need for substantive changes to enhance the effectiveness and efficiency of the PDD program.
The following principles will guide our work to become more effective and efficient. We will:
Innovation and openness to change will be key factors as the PDD program looks internally to streamline operations, and externally to increase efficiency and effectiveness in the community service delivery system. We encourage leadership in innovation, and are committed to ensuring the PDD program is effective, efficient and sustainable well into the future.
