The Government of Alberta has provided capital funding that supports seniors housing in the province.
Rural Affordable Housing Initiative
In November 2005, the Premier announced $140 million in one time funding for rural affordable housing, supportive living projects and urgent seniors lodge maintenance and repair.
The funding is part of the government's plan to invest the budget surplus.
The funding will support the development of approximately 4,200 supportive living, affordable housing and seniors housing units primarily in rural Alberta.
This one time capital grant funding includes:
$50 million in new funds for supportive living in rural areas to match
$50 million previously announced under the Rural Affordable Supportive Living Program (RASL)
$25 million in new funds for rural affordable housing
$15 million in new funds for urgent maintenance and necessary upgrades to seniors lodges.
