Rural Capital Projects Initiative

Rural Albertans will benefit significantly from  $140 million in provincial funding allocated in 2005, as well as an additional $25 million allocated in 2007, that will support the development or upgrading of supportive living, affordable housing and seniors housing units primarily throughout rural Alberta.

As of November 23, 2007: more than 6,470 supportive living, affordable housing and seniors housing units have been developed or upgraded under these programs.

November 23, 2007: Oyen, Alberta

The Government of Alberta provided $1.5 million to complete the construction of 12 affordable, supportive living units in Oyen.

November 9, 2007: Innisfail, Alberta

The Government of Alberta provided more than $880,000 to help complete the construction of 30 affordable, supportive living units at the Innisfail Country Lodge in Innisfail.

November 2, 2007: Lethbridge, Alberta

The Government of Alberta provided more than $2 million to complete the construction of 140 affordable, supportive living units at Extendicare Fairmont Lethbridge in Lethbridge.

October 24, 2007: Ponoka, Alberta

The Government of Alberta provided more than $700,000 to help complete the construction of 13 affordable, supportive living units at the Golden Leisure Lodge in Ponoka.

October 16, 2007: St. Paul, Alberta

The Government of Alberta provided more than $500,000 to help complete the construction of 30 affordable, supportive living units in St. Paul.

September 28, 2007: Lloydminster, Alberta

The Government of Alberta provided $525,000 to help complete the construction of 60 affordable, supportive living units at Points West Lloydminster in Lloydminster.

September 24, 2007: Castor, Alberta

The Government of Alberta provided $349,000 to help complete the construction of 25 affordable, supportive living units in Castor.

September 21, 2007: Hythe, Alberta

The Government of Alberta provided $2.6 million to help complete the construction of 21 affordable, supportive living units at the Paintearth Lodge in Castor.

September 12, 2007: Drumheller, Alberta

The Government of Alberta provided more than $2.7 million to help complete the construction of 36 affordable, supportive living units at the Sunshine Lodge in Drumheller.

August 30, 2007: Medicine Hat, Alberta

The Government of Alberta provided $1 million to help complete the construction of 40 supportive living units in Medicine Hat.

May 4, 2007: Taber, Alberta

The Government of Alberta provided more than $4.7 million to help develop 105 new supportive living projects in Taber.

April 25, 2007: Olds, Alberta

The Government of Alberta provided $6,500,000 to Mountain View Seniors’ Housing under the Rural Affordable Supportive Living program to help replace the Mount View Lodge in Olds with a new 66 unit facility.

April 16, 2007: Jasper, Alberta

The Evergreens Foundation was approved for $1,766,500 to help develop 16 new affordable supportive living units for seniors in Jasper under the Rural Affordable Supportive Living program.

March 2, 2007: Slave Lake, Alberta

The Government of Alberta provided $3,799,000 under the Rural Affordable Supportive Living program to help develop 45 new affordable, supportive living units for seniors in Slave Lake. The Lesser Slave Lake Regional Housing Authority will use the funds to help develop an expansion next to Vanderwell Heritage Place Senior’s Lodge.

February 9, 2007: High River, Alberta

Eldercare Communities Ltd. was approved for $2,126,321 in provincial funding to help develop 36 new affordable, supportive living units for seniors under the Rural Affordable Supportive Living program at Eldercare High River.

February 2, 2007: Camrose, Alberta

The Government of Alberta provided $2,444,310 to Continuum Health Care Holdings Ltd. to help develop 42 new affordable, supportive living units for seniors at Sunrise Village – Camrose under the Rural Affordable Supportive Living program.

January 19, 2007: Beaumont, Alberta

The Beaumont Aging in Place Society was approved for $3,201,019 in provincial funding under the Rural Affordable Supportive Living program to help develop 45 new affordable, supportive living units for seniors with physical and cognitive limitations at Place Beausejour in Beaumont. 

January 12, 2007: Rocky View, Alberta

The Government of Alberta provided $6,500,000 to help EnCharis Community Housing & Services develop 62 new, affordable, supportive living units in Rocky View under the Rural Affordable Supportive Living program. Half of the units at Prince of Peace Dementia & Assisted Living Care will be for residents with dementia.

January 12, 2007: Airdrie, Alberta
Integrated Life Care Inc. was approved for $2,689,283 in provincial grants to help develop 22 new affordable, supportive living units at Luxstone Manor in Airdrie under the Rural Affordable Supportive Living program.

July 28, 2006: Vegreville, Alberta
The Alberta government is providing $393,725 in provincial grants to assist the Municipal District of Minburn Foundation to undertake needed repairs and renovations at the 66-unit, Homestead Lodge. Funding from the Lodge Repair and Maintenance program will be used to replace the call system, bath assist tubs, sidewalks, flooring and roofing.

July 28, 2006: Holden, Alberta
There is a commitment to provide the Beaver Foundation with $140,500 in provincial grants for the 37-unit, Holden Lodge. The funding from the Lodge Repair and Maintenance program will be used for new dehumidifiers and sump pumps, re-grading of the building drainage, and undertaking other needed repairs and renovations.

June 19, 2006: Edson, Alberta
The Evergreens Foundation was approved for $349,145. The provincial grant will be used to replace windows and the roof membrane and to undertake other needed repairs at the 55-unit, Parkland Lodge. The grant funding was made available under the Lodge Repair and Maintenance program.

June 16, 2006: St. Albert, Alberta
Rosedale Developments was approved for $1,324,285. The provincial grant will be used for the development of 30 affordable supportive living units in St. Albert, under the Rural Affordable Supportive Living program.

Extendicare Canada Inc. was approved for $4,409,384. The provincial grant will be used for the development of 60 affordable supportive living units for the Michener Hill project, under the Rural Affordable Supportive Living program.

June 9, 2006: Raymond, Alberta
The Good Samaritan Society was approved for $2,243,614. The provincial grant will be used for the development of 70 affordable supportive living units for the Raymond Supportive Living project, under the Rural Affordable Supportive Living program.

The Good Samaritan Society was approved for $3,051,847. The provincial grant will be used for the development of 95 affordable supportive living units for the Cardston Supportive Living project, under the Rural Affordable Supportive Living program.

The Chinook Foundation was approved for $151,640. The provincial grant will be used to replace plumbing, public address telephone system and to undertake other needed repairs at the 62-unit, Chinook Lodge. The grant funding was made available under the Lodge Repair and Maintenance program.

The Alberta government is providing $35,000 in grants to the Chinook Foundation to undertake much needed repairs and renovations at the 39-unit, Diamond Willow Terrace Lodge. Funding from the Lodge Repair and Maintenance program will be used to replace the bath assist tubs.

June 9, 2006: Taber, Alberta
There is a commitment to provide Taber and District Housing with $261,920 for their 77-unit, Clearview Lodge. The funding from the Lodge Repair and Maintenance program will be used for the replacement of an emergency generator, fire alarm system and to undertake other needed maintenance and repairs.

June 9, 2006: Rocky Mountain House, Alberta
The Rocky Seniors Housing Council was approved for $69,927. The provincial grant will be used to replace windows and dining room flooring at the 53-unit, Westview Lodge. The grant funding was made available under the Lodge Repair and Maintenance program.

June 5, 2006: Lethbridge, Alberta
St. Michael’s Health Centre was approved for $7,000,000. The provincial grant will be used for the development of 200 affordable supportive living units for the St. Michael’s Supportive Living project, under the Rural Affordable Supportive Living program.

There is a commitment to provide the Green Acres Foundation with $316,000 for their 80-unit, Garden View Lodge. The funding from the Lodge Repair and Maintenance program will be used to replace roofing, the call system and to undertake other needed maintenance and repairs.

There is a commitment to provide the Green Acres Foundation with $69,435 for their 57-unit, Alberta Rose Lodge. The funding from the Lodge Repair and Maintenance program will be used to replace windows, sky-lights, and to undertake other needed maintenance projects.

There is a commitment to provide the Metropolitan Calgary Foundation with $37,000 for their 61-unit, Beaver Dam Lodge 1200. The funding from the Lodge Repair and Maintenance program will be used to replace windows and the fire alarm system.

The Alberta government is providing $24,000 in provincial grants to help the Metropolitan Calgary Foundation undertake much needed repairs and renovations at the 61-unit, Bow Valley Lodge 1100. Funding from the Lodge Repair and Maintenance program will be used to replace the fire alarm system and to undertake other required maintenance and repair projects.

The provincial grant will be used to replace boilers, windows, and to undertake other needed maintenance and repair projects at the 49-unit, Mount View Lodge. The grant funding was made available under the Lodge Repair and Maintenance program.

The Alberta government is providing $38,700 in provincial grants to help Mountain View Seniors’ Housing undertake much needed repairs and renovations at the 30-unit, Chinook Winds Lodge. This funding from the Lodge Repair and Maintenance program will be used to upgrade the fire alarm system and to undertake other needed maintenance and repair projects.

June 1, 2006: Canmore, Alberta
There is a commitment to provide the Bow Valley Regional Housing with $94,449 in provincial grants for their 61-unit, Bow River Lodge. The funding from the Lodge Repair and Maintenance program will be used to replace the nurse call system and to undertake other needed maintenance and repair projects.

May 31, 2006: Winfield, Alberta
The Alberta government is providing $90,000 in provincial grants to help Seniors' Homes and Community Housing to undertake needed repairs and renovations at the 38-unit, West Pine Lodge in Winfield. Funding from the Lodge Repair and Maintenance program will be used to replace the roof at the lodge.

May 29, 2006: Bonnyville, Alberta
There is a commitment to provide the Lakeland Lodge and Housing Foundation with $325,500 in provincial grants for the 74-unit, Bonny Lodge. The funding from the Lodge Repair and Maintenance program will be used to replace the roof, windows and flooring.

May 29, 2006: Cold Lake, Alberta
The Lakeland Lodge and Housing Foundation was approved for $24,800. The provincial grant will be used to repair windows and to undertake other needed repairs at the 58-unit, Cold Lake Senior Citizen Lodge. The grant funding was made available under the Lodge Repair and Maintenance program.

May 26, 2006: St. Paul, Alberta
The Alberta government is providing $21,360 in grants to the Municipal District of St. Paul Foundation to undertake much needed repairs and renovations at the 83-unit, Sunnyside Manor. Funding from the Lodge Repair and Maintenance program will be used for a variety of plumbing needs such as the replacement of suite sinks, bathtub taps and other needed maintenance projects.

May 26, 2006: Elk Point, Alberta
There is a commitment to provide the Municipal District of St. Paul Foundation with $10,000 for their 50-unit, Heritage Lodge. The funding from the Lodge Repair and Maintenance program will be used to replace the nurse call system and repair the boiler.

May 24, 2006: Manning, Alberta
The North Peace Housing Foundation was approved for $59,000. The provincial grant will be used for new air unit controls, replace assisted bath unit, toilets and kitchen floor and to undertake other needed repairs at the 52-unit, Del-Air Lodge. The grant funding was made available under the Lodge Repair and Maintenance program.

May 24, 2006: Peace River, Alberta
The Alberta government is providing $1,500 in grants to the North Peace Housing Foundation to undertake much needed repairs and renovations at the 40-unit, Heritage Tower Senior Citizens Complex. Funding from the Lodge Repair and Maintenance program will be used to repair the make up air unit and to undertake other needed maintenance projects.

May 23, 2006: Edmonton, Alberta
There is a commitment to provide the Greater Edmonton Foundation with $4,700,000 for their 206-unit Kiwanis Place Lodge. The funding from the Lodge Repair and Maintenance program will be used for the replacement of windows, building and roof envelope, to undertake a mechanical upgrade, and to make other needed maintenance and repairs.

May 17, 2006: Wetaskiwin, Alberta
The Seniors' Homes and Community Housing was approved for $124,000. The provincial grant will be used to replace the fire alarm system and nurse call system, repair the roof and flooring, install wheel chair ramps, and to undertake other needed maintenance and repairs at the 87-unit, Peace Hills Lodge. The grant funding was made available under the Lodge Repair and Maintenance program.

May 12, 2006: Pincher Creek, Alberta
There is a commitment to provide the Pincher Creek Foundation with $48,595 for their 47-unit, Crest View Lodge. The funding from the Lodge Repair and Maintenance program will be used to replace flooring, plumbing and to undertake other needed maintenance and repairs.

May 12, 2006: Blairmore, Alberta
There is a commitment to provide Crowsnest Pass Senior Housing with $215,700 for their 58-unit, York Creek Lodge. The funding from the Lodge Repair and Maintenance program will be used to replace the generator and undertake other needed maintenance projects.

May 11, 2006: Athabasca, Alberta
The Greater North Foundation was approved for $1,256,212 for the development of 16 supportive housing units at the Pleasant Valley Lodge Supportive Housing project. Funding was approved under the Rural Affordable Housing Partnership Initiative.

The Sturgeon Foundation was approved for $200,000. The provincial grant will be used to replace the roof and insulation, and to undertake other needed maintenance and repair projects at the 43-unit, Spruce View Manor. The grant funding was made available under the Lodge Repair and Maintenance program.

There is a commitment to provide the Sturgeon Foundation with $62,000 for their 41-unit, Diamond Spring Lodge. The funding from the Lodge Repair and Maintenance program will be used to replace eaves, insulation in the kitchen attic, and to undertake regrading the building drainage.

May 11, 2006: Thorhild, Alberta
There is a commitment to provide the Newthorad Seniors Housing Foundation with $72,343 for the 49-unit, Thorhild Lodge. The funding from the Lodge Repair and Maintenance program will be used to replace hot water tanks, drainage pipes, flooring in common areas, and add a new wheelchair ramp with automated doors.

May 10, 2006: Picture Butte, Alberta
The Alberta government is providing $49,000 in provincial grants to help the Green Acres Foundation undertake much needed repairs and renovations at the 32-unit, Piyami Lodge. Funding from the Lodge Repair and Maintenance program will be used to replace the fire panel and to undertake other needed maintenance and repair projects.

May 10, 2006: Coaldale, Alberta
There is a commitment to provide the Green Acres Foundation with $40,000 in provincial grants for the 57-unit, Sunny South Lodge. The funding from the Lodge Repair and Maintenance program will be used to replace boilers.

May 5, 2006: Berwyn, Alberta
The North Peace Housing Foundation was approved for $52,500. The provincial grant will be used to replace the assisted bath unit, improve handicapped access and to undertake other needed maintenance and repair projects at the 41-unit, Autumn Lodge. The grant funding was made available under the Lodge Repair and Maintenance program.

May 5, 2006: Falher, Alberta
The Alberta government is providing $140,000 in provincial grants to help Heart River Housing undertake much needed repairs and renovations at the 69-unit, Villa Beausejour. Funding from the Lodge Repair and Maintenance program will be used to replace boilers and roofing and to undertake other needed maintenance and repair projects.

May 5, 2006: Hines Creek, Alberta
There is a commitment to provide the North Peace Housing Foundation with $12,500 in provincial grants for their 26-unit, Homesteader Lodge. The funding from the Lodge Repair and Maintenance program will be used to replace pumps and gauges for heating and upgrade the fire alarm system.

May 5, 2006: Spirit River, Alberta
The Grande Spirit Foundation was approved for $236,000. The provincial grant will be used for the replacement of bedroom windows, a new bath assist tub and chair lift, and to undertake other needed maintenance and repair projects at the 42-unit, Pleasant View Lodge. The grant funding was made available under the Lodge Repair and Maintenance program.

May 5, 2006: Fort Macleod, Alberta
The Alberta government is providing $25,059 in provincial grants to assist the Willow Creek Foundation to undertake much needed repairs and renovations at the 37-unit, Macleod Pioneer Lodge. Funding from the Lodge Repair and Maintenance program will be used to repair and replace flooring and roofing at the facility.

May 5, 2006: Claresholm, Alberta
There is a commitment to provide the Porcupine Hills Seniors Foundation with $70,683 in provincial grants for their 48-unit, Porcupine Hills Lodge. The funding from the Lodge Repair and Maintenance program will be used to replace the boiler, new flooring and to repair exterior walls.

May 5, 2006: Nanton, Alberta
The Mosquito Creek Foundation was approved for $1,947,750. The provincial grant will be used for the development of 30 affordable supportive living units in Nanton, under the Rural Affordable Supportive Living program.

May 5, 2006: Stony Plain, Alberta
The Alberta government is providing $155,500 in provincial grants to assist the Meridian Foundation undertake much needed repairs and renovations at their 60-unit, Whispering Waters Manor. Funding from the Lodge Repair and Maintenance program will be used to replace the fire alarm system, provide new water closets and to undertake other needed maintenance and repair projects.

May 5, 2006: Sherwood Park, Alberta
The All Senior Care Living Centres were approved for $1,736,350 for the Summerwood Village project. The provincial grant will be used for the development of 30 affordable supportive living units in Sherwood Park under the Rural Affordable Supportive Living program.

The Alberta Government is providing $1,631,643 to Rosedale Developments for the development of 30 affordable supportive living units for the Rosedale-Sherwood Park project. The funding was made available under the Rural Affordable Supportive Living program.

There is a commitment to provide Senior Management Services with $44,500 in provincial grants for their 79-unit, Clover Bar Lodge. The funding from the Lodge Repair and Maintenance program will be used to replace the flooring and repair the boiler.

May 4, 2006: Innisfail, Alberta
There is a commitment to provide the Parkland Foundation with $109,150 in provincial grants for the 62-unit, Autumn Glen Lodge. The funding from the Lodge Repair and Maintenance program will be used to repair the building envelope, replace the front entry kitchen, and replace flooring.

May 4, 2006: Sylvan Lake, Alberta
The Alberta government is providing $23,361 in provincial grants to assist the Sylvan Lake Foundation undertake much needed repairs and renovations at their 59-unit, Sylvan Lake Lodge. Funding from the Lodge Repair and Maintenance program will be used to install a new sidewalk and replace flooring in common areas.

May 2, 2006: Viking, Alberta
The Beaver Foundation was approved for $2,745,684. The provincial grant will be used for the development of 32 affordable supportive living units in Viking, under the Rural Affordable Supportive Living program.

May 2, 2006: Black Diamond, Alberta
The Foothills Foundation was approved for $82,000. The provincial grant will be used for stucco repairs, new roofing, and to undertake other needed maintenance and repair projects at the 41-unit, High Country Lodge. The grant funding was made available under the Lodge Repair and Maintenance program.

April 28, 2006: Grande Prairie, Alberta
The Alberta government is providing $315,000 in provincial grants for much-needed repairs and renovations at the 49-unit, Pioneer Lodge in Grande Prairie. The funding from the Lodge Renovations and Repair program will be used to replace the roof and fire alarm system as well as undertake other needed repairs.

April 28, 2006: Mayerthorpe, Alberta
There is a commitment to provide the Lac Ste. Anne Foundation with $495,990 in funding to replace the roof and other needed maintenance at the 42-unit, Pleasant View Lodge. The grant funding was made available under the Lodge Renovations and Repair program.

April 28, 2006: Whitecourt, Alberta
The Lac Ste. Anne Foundation has been approved for $162,000. The grant will be used to upgrade the corridor ventilation system, provide air conditioning, replace roof ventilation, and to undertake other needed repairs at the 20-unit, Spruce View Lodge. The grant funding was made available under the Lodge Renovations and Repair program.

April 26, 2006: High River, Alberta
The Foothills Foundation Association was approved to receive a grant in the amount of $58,785 to replace the bath-assist tub and to undertake other needed repairs at the 32-unit, Westwinds Seniors Lodge. Funding was made available under the Lodge Renovations and Repair program.

The Foothills Foundation was approved for $123,850 in grant funding to replace the emergency call system, install new bath assist tubs and for other needed repairs and renovations at the 52-unit, Medicine Tree Manor. Funding was made available under the Lodge Renovations and Repair program.

The Foothills Foundation was approved for $191,320 to replace roof shingles and to undertake other needed repairs at the 46-unit, Sandstone Lodge. Funding was provided to the Foundation from the Lodge Renovations and Repair program.

April 25, 2006: Viking, Alberta
The Beaver Foundation has been approved for $208,300 from the Lodge Renovations and Repair program so they could proceed with the replacement of the main sewer line, repair boilers and for other required maintenance at the 44-unit,Vialta Lodge.

April 25, 2006: Vermilion, Alberta
There was a commitment to provide the Vermilion and District Housing Foundation with a grant for $256,000. These funds will be used to replace the roofing, install new wall insulation and to undertake other needed maintenance projects at the 124-unit, Vermilion Valley Lodge. Funding was provided under the Lodge Renovations and Repair program.

April 25, 2006: Lloydminster, Alberta
The Lloydminster Region Housing Group was approved for $272,500 to replace roofing and flooring in the 122-unit, Pioneer Lodge. Funding was provided under the Lodge Renovations and Repair program.

April 21, 2006: Stettler, Alberta
The County of Stettler Housing Authority was approved to receive $103,000 to replace flooring and to undertake other needed repairs at the 53-unit, Willow Creek Lodge. Grant funding was provided under the Lodge Renovations and Repair program.

The County of Stettler Housing Authority was approved for $320,000 for the replacement of the building envelope and install new siding and windows at the 70-unit, Paragon Place Lodge. The funding was provided under the Lodge Renovations and Repair program.

The Provost Senior Citizens' Home Foundation was approved for $550,000 for the development of 11 affordable housing units under the Rural Affordable Housing Partnership Initiative and $389,035 for needed repairs at the 56-unit, Hillcrest Lodge, under the Lodge Renovations and Repair program.

April 21, 2006: Sedgewick, Alberta
The Flagstaff Regional Housing Group was approved to receive $84,000 to replace flooring and other required maintenance at the 38-unit, Flagstaff Lodge, under the Lodge Renovations and Repair program.

The Battle River Foundation was approved for $141,000 for the replacement of windows, water-proofing of walls and other required maintenance projects in the 101-unit, Battle River Lodge. Funding was made available through the Lodge Renovations and Repair program.

The Castor and District Housing Authority was approved for $46,692 to replace flooring and to undertake other needed repairs at the 30-unit, Paintearth Lodge. Funding came from the Lodge Renovations and Repair program.

April 19, 2006: Banff, Alberta
The Abbeyfield House Banff Society was approved for $850,000 to ensure the long-term sustainability for 10 supportive living units. Funding was approved under the Rural Affordable Supportive Living program.

April 18 2006: St. Paul, Alberta
The Municipal District of St. Paul was approved for $1,681,020 for 30 new supportive living units at the Sunnyside Manor. Funding was approved under the Rural Affordable Supportive Living program.
