Marital/Cohabitation Status

Your type of accommodation and marital/cohabitation status determine the maximum benefit you may be eligible to receive.

The amount of benefit depends on whether you are single (including divorced, widowed or separated) or a senior couple (married, common-law or adult interdependent relationship).

The benefit for a senior couple is more than that for a single senior. Since senior couples who live together have shared expenses such as rent or home costs, the benefit for couples is not double the amount for single seniors.
