Legislative Review

The Protection for Persons in Care Act (the Act) came into force in 1998. The Act was designed to provide safeguards against abuse for adults receiving services from publicly-funded care agencies.

In October 2005, Dr. Neil Brown, MLA for Calgary-Nose Hill, was appointed to advance the legislative review. Dr. Brown reviewed the input obtained from the earlier consultation process and examined the PDF image Report on the Review of the Protection of Persons in Care Act that was prepared by the former legislative review committee. Dr. Brown has considered the input of key stakeholders and how changes to the Act could improve safeguards for vulnerable adults. In November 2006, Dr. Brown submitted his report with recommendations.
