In 2008, the most recent year for which data are available, the average total income of Alberta seniors exceeded the average total income of Canadian seniors by 20.3 per cent. This continues the trend of Alberta's seniors having higher average total incomes than Canadian seniors as a whole. (See Performance Methodology) The percentage of Alberta seniors’ income derived from non-government funded sources (particularly employment) remained high in 2008, increasing slightly from the previous year. This indicates that Alberta seniors are generally able to maintain their financial well-being and independence.
