Who We Are

The mission of the Premier’s Council is to champion significant improvement in the lives of persons with disabilities. It does this by listening to the concerns of the disability community, and communicating these concerns to members of government.

The Premier’s Council represents all persons with disabilities from all over Alberta, regardless of age or type of disability.

The Premier's Council consists of up to 15 volunteer council members. Marlin Styner is the chair of the Premier’s Council.

Premier's Council members have a broad knowledge of various disability issues and represent various regions of the province.

In December 2002, the Premier's Council released the Alberta Disability Strategy, which provides recommendations to government on creating an environment where full citizenship is possible through improvements in the areas of personal supports, financial supports, learning supports and employment. In response to this strategy, the Government of Alberta created the Office for Disability Issues.

The Office for Disability Issues will assist government in responding to the Alberta Disability Strategy by creating a mechanism for stakeholders and various government departments to work together in addressing the strategy's recommendations. The Premier's Council will provide advice, guidance and counsel to the Office for Disability Issues.
