Premier's Council on the Status of Persons with Disabilities

The Premier's Council aims to improve the lives of persons with disabilities. We do this by listening to issues of the disability community, and communicating them to members of government.

On December 3, 2002, to coincide with the International Day of Disabled Persons, the Premier's Council released the Alberta Disability Strategy. The goal of the Alberta Disability Strategy is to create an environment where full citizenship is possible through improvements in the areas of personal supports, financial supports, learning supports and employment.

Other publications include the Premier's Council annual reports, the Alternative Communications Policy, Removing Barriers, interpreting standards, and Disability in Focus newsletter in pdf or text only.

The Premier's Council also presents the Awards of Excellence, in conjunction with the International Day of Disabled Persons on December 3.

  • In response to the Alberta Disability Strategy, government created the Office for Disability Issues as a central place to discuss disability issues, and strengthen long-term planning to address the needs of Albertans with disabilities.
