The Alberta Brain Injury Initiative was officially launched September 2000, to address the needs of adults with acquired brain injury. The aim of the Initiative is to provide province-wide community support services to enable persons with brain injury to live, work and participate in their communities.

Vision and Mission

Vision

By 2005, a comprehensive system of service, based on need, will be in place to support individuals experiencing effects of an acquired brain injury to live, work and participate optimally in the communities of their choice.

Mission Statement

The Alberta Brain Injury Network aims to support individuals experiencing effects of an acquired brain injury to achieve and/or maintain an optimal quality of life in the community of their choice while preserving and respecting their individual rights and dignity.

There are contracted Service Coordinators in 6 regions throughout Alberta. These Service Coordinators assist survivors and their families in accessing supports from various programs and community resources. Adults with acquired brain injury, and their families or caregivers, are encouraged to contact the Service Coordinator in their area for more information on supports that are available.

Brain Injury Survival Guide

The Survival Guide is intended to provide basic information and support to survivors of acquired brain injury and their families.
